WHY MANIPULATE THE SPINE?

If the nervous system and immune system are functioning at optimal levels, the body will be free of pain and disease..........

Chiropractors typically manipulate the spine. We do this in an attempt to remove interferences to the nervous system.

Your brain is the Master control center of your body. It regulates and communicates with every cell and tissue in the body. This communication and control occurs by sending electrochemical signals along nerves that run from the brain to the various tissues of the body. The spinal cord is actually a bundle of thousands of individual nerves encased within the spine. When segments of the spine get out of proper alignment or the joints of the spine become fixated, it interferes with the communication channels coming from the brain. By manipulating the spine, chiropractors can remove or reduce this interference, thus helping the nervous system function at optimal levels.

Manipulation is usually done with the hands, but can be done with various hand-held devices. The one used in our office is called an Activator. It is less forceful and more specific than the hands-on method. I usually use the Activator on older patients that may have "softer" bones, on babies, and occasionally when adjusting the small bones of the hands or feet. My primary method of manipulation is with the hands, but I do have some patients that prefer the activator. If this is something you are interested in, feel free to discuss it during your appointment.
